The Learn to Swim program offered at both the Downtown and Jamerson YMCA prepares children for swimming and learning basic safety and swimming techniques. The program also builds self confidence. The Silver Sneakers program entitles people with supplemental health insurance to receive a free YMCA membership. Included in the membership is access to special Silver Sneakers classes offered four days per week. The classes are taught mostly sitting in a chair and focus on building range of motion and strength required for activities of daily living. In addition to the classes, we do senior socials and field trips throughout the year.

The Frank J. Thornton YMCA Aquatic Center is a pool-only location, with an indoor heated pool for swim lessons, swim team, water fitness classes and more.

Sexual Assault Response - 24 hour face to face and help-line assistance to children, teens, and adults who have been sexually abused and/or assaulted. SARP is a major referral source for the criminal justice system, child protective services, forensics nurses, schools, and health care agencies. SARP offers direct victim assistance through an array of services from crisis intervention and advocacy during initial emergency room exams throughout treatment, court proceedings, support groups, and the overall recovery process. SARP also provides awareness and educational programs to area schools, businesses, allied professionals, and the general public.

The YMCA provides after school care from 3pm-5:30pm at the Blacksburg Middle School in Community Room #2, Mon-Friday during the school semester.

Emergency Shelter, food, clothing, transportation, case management, group counseling, individual counseling, parenting groups, education and referral. Provides emergency safe shelter to women - 18 and over and their children - who are victims of domestic violence. DVPP offers programs and services to empower women: counseling and court advocacy services; support services and referrals. Males are served through individual supportive counseling.

The Sexual & Domestic Violence program provides solution-focused trauma-informed individual counseling and groups, hospital accompaniment, legal referral and accompaniment and a 24-hour hotline. Counselors meet with clients in our downtown office or at various locations in the Richmond Metro area and Chesterfield.
