The Silver Sneakers program entitles people with supplemental health insurance to receive a free YMCA membership. Included in the membership is access to special Silver Sneakers classes offered four days per week. The classes are taught mostly sitting in a chair and focus on building range of motion and strength required for activities of daily living. In addition to the classes, we do senior socials and field trips throughout the year.

Senior Programs and special events are designed to provide opportunities for education, social interaction, and creative expression.

Lifelong learning initiative provides various learning opportunities made available throughout the year – all of which are designed to be engaging, enlightening, and interesting.

Provides a facility whose primary use is for a Senior Citizens Center. The center provides a kitchen, restrooms and a large meeting room. The building may be rented for meetings, parties or other private events for a fee.

Promotes and enhances independent living of adults aged 60 and older by stabilizing their mental illness or emotional disturbance. The program uses a multi-disciplinary approach to psychiatric treatment and includes comprehensive assessments, medication services, psychotherapy, case coordination, outreach and consultation. Home-based services are available.

Offers not-for-credit learning opportunities for community members age 50 and older. Ultimately, the program is a community of lifelong learners who explore topics together and do what the University of Lynchburg is known for — building friendships and connections that last a lifetime. Program features weekly presentations on a variety of engaging topics, taught by current and retired faculty and staff members or area educators and presenters. Ten classes are offered each semester (fall and spring), with occasional field trips during the semesters and over the summer. LIFE@Lynchburg is for people who love learning, want to dig deeper in their areas of interest, or discover something new.

Morningside Manor is a 105 unit HUD funded income based independent living facility for people age 62 or older and adults with disabilities. Offers studios, one bedroom units, laundry facilities, and five units that are wheelchair accessible.

Arlington's Senior Adult Programs office provides a wide range of ways for people 55 and over to find enjoyment and practice a healthy lifestyle.

Blue Ridge Habitat for Humanity is offering older adults (60+) and Veterans the opportunity to apply for critical home repairs or accessibility modifications. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to age with dignity in their own home and community. The Blue Ridge Habitat for Humanity Aging in Place (AIP) program makes accessibility, safety, energy efficiency and home improvements for seniors living in the City of Winchester and the counties of Frederick, Clarke and Shenandoah. RSVP connect volunteers age 55 and over to non-profits across the community. RSVP serves as a gathering place for older adults to socialize, participate in group service projects, and work toward the common goal of making Northern Virginia stronger, more resilient, and empowered. RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program) is part of AmeriCorps Seniors, which focuses on making public service a central part of the American experience.

The Active Lifestyles Program offers specialized programming for adults 50 & up.

The Buckingham Active Seniors is a group of individuals, ages 60 and up, who come together to share common interest and explore new ones. Members meet on the second Tuesday of each month for an informative program/guest speaker, program meeting, refreshments, and game and social time.

Through a partnership with Virginia Wesleyan University, those living at Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay can take non-credit courses in art, history, political science, psychology, religion, popular culture, and other subjects. Taught by Virginia Wesleyan faculty, the courses are offered at no cost to Westminster-Canterbury members on site, as well as on the Virginia Wesleyan campus. Those living at Westminster-Canterbury also receive free admission to the University's facilities, plays, concerts, lectures, and athletic events (post-season NCAA tournament play requires admission).

Provides affordable housing for the elderly, handicapped and disabled. Applications for Springdale Apartments are taken at the Waynesboro Redevelopment and Housing Authority. Income guidelines apply.
